A mixed week for Legends
So this week in the Datchworth league team 2 were away to Knebworth. John Moore at the helm, still a little rusty from his return from holiday yesterday, partnered Simon Dawson in an opening Men’s doubles. Unfortunately they went down 10-3 in what John describes as a fairly easy defeat. Luckily Lanying Burley was on hand to steady the ship but even so the second set with John was just lost to a tie break 6-7. The final rubber put points on the board with Simon and Lanying winning 8-5. This still leaves Legends top in league 8 just one set clear of Gosling, Watton and Dellcott.
Team 1 started with Trevor Halligan making his debut joined with Katie Hitchen moving up from Team 2 against Watton. A comfortable 10-3 win ensued. I then joined Katie for the second set. The Watton man was very aggressive at the net but was no match for Katie’s precision down the line shots that must have produced about 6 or 7 winners in the set. The set was won 7-2 but because of the light the last four games were split giving a 9-4 outcome. In the fading light I then joined Trevor for the final set. Frankly, we had every chance but both conspired to throw it away losing on a tie break after being 5-3 up. (Some training needed on sealing the deal Teresa)
