TIP OF THE WEEK

BREATH.

The importance of breathing correctly in tennis has always been very important but new science has revealed that it can change your mind-set for the better.

1. breathing out relaxes your muscles, breathing in tenses them. Power in tennis is produced through elastic power where the muscles need to be relaxed. Feel like you’re pushing the ball long all the time? Not getting the power you thought you would? Feeling very stiff on the shot like you can’t hit through the ball? It can all be attributed to holding breath or bad breathing patterns. Breathing out as you hit the ball helps produce the elastic power you want (this is where grunting has come from in the men’s and ladies game).

2. Sports scientists have recently found that holding your breath for five seconds and releasing breath for five seconds twice in a row can work like a reset button which can put your mood back to a more neutral place. Anger, frustration and over excitement are all moods that can cloud thought processes and effect performance. Try this technique to get your mind back on the straight and narrow and boost your performance.

Happy holidays everyone,

The Legends Team.
